Gain Self Confidence And Better Yourself Now!

I always thought myself as a very weak person but within time I learned to gain self confidence. It took self control, discipline, tears and sweat, but today I am where I always wanted to be and walk can now walk with my head held high.

People use to question the decisions I made, which of course was not good for my self esteem and I started questioning myself. I then addressed this issue seriously as I did not want to be categorized as weak and insecure.

Let me share a couple of well deserving tips with you that helped me throughout my life:

Read as many articles everywhere and anything you can lay your hands on to improve your knowledge which automatically gives you power.

When in company, listen and learn about topics being discussed, and before participating in conversations take time to absorb and think about the topic before contributing.

It’s always wise to look after your appearance at all times. When look well groomed you will feel confident, which will spill over into all facets of your life. For instance, when going for an interview your appearance is important and will give you an advantage.

Write down all positive and negative attributes about yourself. Work on erasing the negative points until you are left with only positive input.

Take your list and paste it onto a mirror in the bathroom or where it is visible so that you can constantly remind yourself of what your goal is. Aim to add new attributes to your list as they arise.

As you gain your newly found confidence, share it with someone who also has a low self esteem. This in turn will boost your self esteem which will become a better and more productive person in society. To gain self confidence is a wonderful achievement and will only stand you to good steed.

10 Sure Fire Self Esteem and Self Improvement Tips

When people talk about improving self-esteem, they usually mean self-confidence. While the two are related, they are not exactly the same. Self-esteem is all about self-worth and self-value. It’s how we see ourselves in relation to other people and our environment. It has nothing to do with vanity or conceit.

The lack of self-esteem is a major problem and has a leveling quality. Rich and poor alike are afflicted by it and people decide between happiness and unhappiness because of it. If self-esteem is an area in your life where you need improvement, here are some tips you can use to build your self-value and improve the way you see yourself:

1. Know what you want. You can’t assess where you are in your journey if you have no idea what you want to have in life. You also will not be able to judge whether you’ve been doing a good job or just so-so.

Set goals that are clear and doable. Make sure that these are things you want to do and attain, and not things your parents, family, friends and colleagues insist you ‘should’ have. Is it just the latest trends that dictate your aspirations? If so, you will never catch up and be satisfied. You can only claim your goals as your own if you recognize them as things you truly, genuinely want in your life.

2. Assess your good points. List the things that you do well and the things that make you a good person. It could be anything intelligence, a good sense of humor, good analytical ability, compassion, creativity, ability to spot trends, people skills, things that you have and recognize as an integral part of your personality and talents. No matter how low you feel in your life, these are qualities that you never lose.

3. Recognize your liabilities. Improving your self-esteem does not mean ignoring the things that make you human. To be human is to make mistakes, just do not let them keep you stuck. List your negative traits and label them as areas in your life you need to work on, areas for improvement. Treating them as downright liabilities will make them seem an unalterable feature of your life and create a feeling that you are helpless against them.

4. Build slowly but surely. Take little steps to improve your self-esteem. Big successes build upon small successes. You can’t decide to change your outlook drastically today and expect extreme results in the morning. By taking it slowly and performing well during each turn, you gradually build a solid base of achievements that will boost your self-esteem more effectively.

5. Make it a point to improve yourself daily. Whatever you do, say or think should be geared towards improving your self-esteem. Improve the way you dress, walk or talk. Take further studies to hone your knowledge and skills, learn a new language, take up cooking classes, start a new hobby. Being able to immerse yourself in worthwhile activity creates a feeling of capability and opens new opportunities for growth.

6. Keep away from people who shoot you down with snide remarks and unfair criticisms. Associate with positive people. There will always be grouches and negativists who will think nothing about giving careless opinions that make other people think unworthy of praise or recognition. If you find people who make it their life mission to belittle other people’s achievements, keep your distance. They will not contribute anything good to your life.

7. Be yourself. You’ll never improve your self-esteem if you try to live life and find acceptance as a projected mask of yourself. Pretending to be someone you’re not will fail to affirm your uniqueness and potential and will only make you sadder about your circumstance. You can’t make everyone love you, so don’t try.

8. Make other people feel good about themselves. People tend to like you more if you’re honest and pleasant. Polish your listening skills and body language to make people feel comfortable. Respond to them visibly and with interest.

You might think that this is the opposite of what you want to do to improve your self-esteem but by actually focusing your attention on other people, you create an aura of likeability that they gravitate towards, making them choose you over others. And when you are singled out as a good person who’s terrific to be with, your self-esteem grows.

9. You have the right to make mistakes. Nobody’s perfect, regardless of what you’ve heard or what popular media wants you to believe. By accepting that you will make mistakes and that it’s all right, you learn to recognize that it is a necessary process you need to go through in order for you to improve yourself.

10. Recognize that you are a unique individual with a different set of talents and that you have something to contribute. You may not be a big celebrity like Justin Timberlake, as rich as Bill Gates or as powerful as Oprah Winfrey, but your individuality makes you as important as they are, with as much right to exist and make something of yourself.

Dealing With Your Lack Of Self Confidence

When a person is unable to be confident in their abilities and in themselves, they are noted to be someone who has a lack of self confidence. No matter how much a person states they are confident, if they truly are not it is easy for those who are around that person to determine otherwise. Mentally and physically, people are able to see just how unsure a person may be of themselves. With some assistance and perhaps mentoring, a person who lacks confidence can learn to be confident once more.

It is not too hard to know a person has lack of self confidence. They may speak negative words about themselves and others. Physically, they may not dress as they really should. They may not put in any special effort in the workplace and it will reflect on their job performance and evaluations. Not having confidence can also be seen physically as the person may neglect taking care of themselves. Sometimes help has to be sought in order to gain self confidence.

A lot of the time a person has had low or no self confidence for so long that he/she will have to seek help from professionals like ministers, therapists, and others to re-do their habits and thinking. Initially a person may not think it is possible to be like others and be confident so seeking help may not be so easy but usually they will end up make the decision to get some help with their problem. With professional help, the person will obtain the tools needs to become confident.

Good people rub off on others so ideally someone with low confidence should get to know others who are very confident. The habits of those with good confidence will hopefully rub off on the person with low confidence. Sometimes motivation is they key for someone to be able to change.

As soon as a person gains self confidence, their attitudes change. They are more eager to participate in activities, more excited to speak in public, not afraid to take charge of tasks and assignments and on a daily basis keep trying to reinforce what they have learned while gaining their self confidence back again. Social life, work life and personal life all improves.

As soon as a person who is not confident gets out of denial about the problem and seeks help, the sooner they can have some confidence and display it in their daily life. A person can be deceitful about having confidence but many catch on to the act quickly. It is a myth that someone can not gain self confidence once they lose it because with the right support network and the support of family and friends, it can be done. Life is more blissful with happiness and self confidence in place.

Finding Your Purpose

What is your purpose? This is probably one of the most difficult questions that anyone can ask you. It also makes us very uncomfortable when we have to talk about it. However, if you really know your purpose, pursuing it is the key to living a fulfilling life.

I believe the answers to three questions are the way that you can determine your life’s purpose. The first question is, “What Am I Good At?”. Each of us has skills, capabilities, and natural abilities. There is a tendency to believe that we have to be the world’s best in order to say that we are good at something. This is not the case. Consider anything where you are better than average as something you are good at. So begin the process of determining your purpose by making a list of everything that you can think of where you have better than average capabilities.

The second question is, “What Do I Like To Do?”. I think it is impossible to be achieving your life’s purpose doing something that you don’t like to do, even though you may be good at it. I am a classic example. I spent five years getting my bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. I was always good at science and math, so this seemed like a good fit for a career. I graduated near the top of my class, but really never became passionate about the field. I stayed in school and got an MBA which opened my eyes to other career possibilities. I was fortunate to find a job out of college that allowed me to use my engineering background in a business oriented job. Although I spent almost 30 years in the chemicals industry, I never did chemical engineering.

A way to begin answering the question about what you like to do, is to think about what you would be doing if making a living didn’t matter. In some instances, people get into careers because of the money or demand, then find out they made a bad choice. For instance, our research shows that most people who get into teaching and are driven primarily by money, leave the profession within five years. On the other hand, most who are driven by helping people, stay in it for a lifetime.

The third question is “How Do I Want To Be Compensated?” for what I do. Compensation doesn’t have to be in the form of money. It can be in the form of recognition or prestige, it can be having an impact on others, it can be in terms of material things, or other forms of personal satisfaction. By the way, there is nothing wrong with be driven by material gain – what we are driven by and our moral character are two different things. Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are two of the richest people in the world. They are clearly driven by financial success, yet both are committed to using their wealth to help others and make the world better.

Your first reaction may be that the third question is unnecessary or irrelevant. You might say, “If I am doing what I am good at and what I like to do, aren’t I fulfilling my purpose?” The problem with this line of reasoning is that it fails to take into account the need to see results from our activities and pursuits. My daughter is a good example. She is an accomplished pianist and got a partial music scholarship to attend a private university. She was very good at playing the piano and she liked to do it. She practiced on her own without any prodding from us. Part way through college, she realized that she would likely not be able to make what she considered a meaningful living as a musical performer, so she chose a different career path. She now has her own PR firm specializing in being a publicist for musicians. She found a different way to channel her likes and skills into something that provided a meaningful return to her.

Determining your purpose is not a quick or easy activity, but can be the most meaningful thing you do in your life. Begin the process by answering the three questions, and figuring out where the answers overlap.

Creative Thinking Using Meditation

There are a lot of specific techniques for more creative thinking. You can combine concepts, tear ideas apart to find new ones, and do group brainstorming sessions. Those all work, but to have a naturally more creative mind you might also want to try meditation.

Because meditation can clear your mind of some of the usual negative thoughts, it can open the way for more creative thinking. A mind that no longer indulges in so many thoughts like, “That’s stupid,” or “That would never work,” or “I can’t do that,” is a a mind that is more open to new possibilities.

By the way, this is why no criticism is allowed in brainstorming sessions until after all the ideas have been thrown out there and worked with. Who would want to present crazy new ideas if they were being called ridiculous or otherwise shot down every time? What people can do to each other during a brainstorming session, we can easily do to ourselves with our own thoughts.

There are other benefits that have been proven to come from regular meditation, some of which are conducive to better thinking in general. For example, meditating actually lowers stress and anxiety levels by lowering cortisol and lactate levels, which means less of the foggy thinking and actual brain damage that these can cause. It has been shown to reduce irritability and moodiness, making better concentration possible when you are engaged in creative thinking or any mental tasks.

Here are some of the other things meditation can do for you that might indirectly help you be more naturally creative:

- It lowers blood pressure, thereby reducing damage to vessels in the brain.

- It raises blood oxygen levels. It’s a short and/or long-term effect depending on the consistency of your practice, but either way, more oxygen almost certainly helps the brain.

- It give you new perspectives. Some meditative practices lead you to deeper insights and transformative ways of seeing yourself and others and the things around you.

To use meditation more directly as a creative thinking exercise, write down a problem or two that you want a solution for. Then meditate until your mind has quieted down quite a bit. Afterwards, immediately look at your list and start jotting down any ideas that come to mind. If you know a few creative problem solving techniques this will be even more effective, but the point is to get busy before your mind slips back into its normal thinking patterns (which constitute the famous “box” you just got your thinking out of).

The power of a positive frame of mind

Having a positive frame of mind is so very important for a host of reasons. We all tend to be more creative and our performance levels go through the roof when we are positive. We should all strive to sustain ourselves with new challenges and be honest with our self appraisal. When we do this on a regular basis the benefits are enormous.

However, change is one thing that can never be stopped. Whether for the better or worse, our world and the lives in it are always changing. Learning to adapt to change is the best thing that you can do for you and your family. It won’t take long to realize that there is nothing to fear.

1. Always Keep Positive Thoughts. Think positively when you are starting a change in your life. Think of all that could go right in your new life rather than thinking of what could go wrong.

2. Learn Life Lessons. If you think about things that have changed for the better in your past, you can visualize the new changes having the same good outcomes. Even if you have had changes that did not go so well, you can learn important lessons from those events. 6. Live in the Present. You can conquer all your fears by living in the moment. If you keep thinking about the past or what could happen in the future, you will not be able to live within the moments you are presently living. In a time that you may be doubting yourself, concentrate on the moment you are currently in. You should enjoy the moment that you are in because that is all you have now.

7. Simplify the Change. If the change you are going through is rather huge, you can break it down into smaller steps to make it easier. This will keep you from feeling scared and overwhelmed in the transition that you’re going through.

8. There’s No Perfect Timing. The best time to change is always ‘Now’. Do not give yourself excuses. Make the change and believe that you can do it!

9. Have a Back Up Plan. When you’re coming up on a change, what you don’t know may scare you more than anything else. If you can, try to make a plan through the entire process. Make a plan after you have thought about all the possible good and bad scenarios. You will start to feel more comfortable with changes and your fears will ease if you make a plan.
